Alex Romero

Alex Romero

Alex Romero is quickly rising through the poker ranks. Even as a young player learning the game, he has recorded results that the most experienced of career professionals would be proud of. And he has no plans on stopping now.

Based in Andalusia in the south of Spain, Alex’s journey could have initially taken him on another path. As late as 2020, he was a physiotherapist who played poker as a hobby. Sure, there were some exciting results, but Alex had yet to push the button and go all-in.

That changed during the pandemic when he began to study the game like never before. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect, and while it might have taken a couple of years, Alex was suddenly reaping the rewards for his dedication. In 2022, he went deep in the EPT Monte-Carlo Main Event to record a 9th place finish and the biggest payday of his career at €69,990.

Then in 2024, he took the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) by storm, amassing over £49,000 in prize money across four different events. By the end of the tour at the finale in Nottingham, Alex was named the UKIPT Player of the Year after seeing off rivals Artús Giménez and Víctor Caballero to claim the crown. Also that year, he earned the trophy and €5,925 after winning the No Limit Hold’em Heads-Up Championship at the Irish Open.

The on-the-felt accomplishments in themselves would be impressive, but there’s more to this budding star than a strong set of results. Alex is not only a PokerStars Ambassador, but also the Spanish commentator for our live events, bringing the same passion and dedication to the comms box you see from him at the table.

As his career highlights, he’s certainly not all talk, so you should expect to see and hear a lot more from him in the future.

Alex plays online poker exclusively at PokerStars, where he plays under the username ‘and1ero’.
